Thank you wonderful Spirit People!

It was raining a lot last night, but it was warm and fun at some point, to run and laugh, dance in the rain for dozen of volunteers who helped at lesson. A week ago it was VERY cold, and I remember and admire Diane, who came and help muck the field at the evening.
Spirit has the best volunteer team at the world! ♥
Thank you wonderful Spirit People!

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Tomorrow is forecast to be Cooler than today.

And forecast for the rest of the week is similar. Temperatures a lot below 30 F makes riding plans mission impossible.
Lessons will be canceled until next week.
Sorry :(
Volunteers, welcome but do not have to come to help fieldwork and horse care just 5-6 PM and Saturday 9-11 AM
Stay warm

Too cold...

OK. We did try hard.
But it was just too cold.
We had to cancel all therapies, and provided just 10 minutes mounted to those who were brave to came, and we get frozen working at the field and with horses tonight. Thank you all  - Elliana, Sidney, Mira, Naomi, Ilana, Grace, Becca, Andrew, Jeff - for spending few hours together and providing care for hoses and field. Stay in touch about rest of the week schedule.

Cold weather

Thank you, Spirit people!

Dear volunteers and instructors and Spirit  families and riders. It is very cold. And it will be even colder. We know it. We clean the field, feed horses, and work in lessons every evening. But we are not alone.

Do not forget that every morning, Susie, Therese, Don, Cline, Jeff and Andrew, at the coldest time of the day are coming and feeding horses, mucking the field and stalls, filling up water at the field and stall buckets, hay in nets.

In this cold temperature, watering is a challenge. Our hundreds yards long hose freeze quick and that might be a beginning of disaster - having nine horses without water at the field... Cline solved this problem, buying special cover for all length of the hose and, together with Susie set it up to be sure that we will avoid panic in case of frozen water supply.

Thank you Cline!
And thank you each and all, who are helping us to keep our horses healthy and happy, and program activities going on in even in this winter conditions.

Second week of first Winter class starts today!
See you later :)

New opportunity for volunteers!

Dear volunteers at Spirit Program  (and their parents)
Thank you for the great start of Winter Classes in 2013. Without you we would not be able to reach so many people in community and give them experience of learning and healing with horse related activities.
We continue to grow as a Program, and recently, I recognized how many volunteers would like to have more chances to learn how to exercise horses and enjoy in that part of our work.

In order to organize consistence and personal growth of those who are the most committed to our program, here is new opportunity for volunteers who would like to help about warming up, beside helping at therapeutic and other activities.

As you know we have group of Mentors Volunteers, people who earned a lot of credits in previous years and still serve up to 4 times a week at our program activities - all of them has right to ride any and all horses in warming up, training and schooling process. They, occasionally compete with Spirit horses at the shows at the Park as well.

Second group would be volunteers with some knowledge and experience with horses, and who commit at least two days a week to help in program activities. I would like to give those a chance to reach the level of independence in horsemanship and riding. If you are a volunteer who would like to participate in warming up and schooling Spirit horses, and you are coming at least twice a week to help - this is an opportunity for you.
For $100 monthly, payable before 1st f the next month, you will be able to ride before lessons, in case of absence of client, or at scheduled schooling sessions as well. This training is the way to earn position as Mentor in program as well.
Number of your riding sessions will not be less than 4 a month, and possible much more if you are regular to come earlier and participate in warm up sessions. Your payment will help us to cover increased cost of food and medication for our horses.

Third group, all other volunteers we will still teach about ground activities, from grooming and tacking to leading, and even occasionally walking on horses, depend of situation. No more riding training will not be provided to this group.

We meet at 5, and riding time depends of how fast kids groom and tack at week days.
Horses who are not in usage, and if we have enough helping hands for clients, will be ridden during the lesson time. Approximate time is 30-45 min per session, and it should include walk/trot/canter/jumping depending of horse's need, ability and rider's skill.

And I forgot to say that all volunteers in that program should purchase yearly pass at the Park, too. It lasts until May and has been prorated from $200 to $65 and later will be less.

Let me know if you are interested to sign in for February and if you have any questions.

Thank you again for all your help, and I am looking forward to seeing you soon again

With warm regards,
Dada
