Renewing Riding Pass

Dear EAL students and TR Saturday students, I just got a message from the Park that beginning of new 2016, you have to go to the Equestrian Office and ask for your new Riding Passes. You do not have to purchase anything , just take your new ID which should be with you anytime you ride.
For more info call the Park and ask for Megan, manager 703-437-9101
Thank you.
Dada

Original message from the Park Manager:

Hello! Just to keep everyone up to date on riding passes as we start a new year.

We have new riding passes for daily, quarterly and annual riders (...)
This is important for multiple reasons most of which is out of concern for safety (The new passes have a place to put emergency contact info and pre-existing medical conditions)

We also have a rider check-in book in the Equestrian Office and at the end of the indoor arena where riders should sign in and place their current coggins.

Pass Prices  -
Daily Riding Pass $15
Quarterly Riding Pass $55
Annual Riding Pass $200

Riders should call ahead and purchase a pass before their arrival if they will not be arriving during regular business hours.

If someone needs to purchase a pass during off hours they should call the duty phone and a maintenance staff member will assist them.

Back home, and still waiting to quit quarantine to work at the Park

Dear friends, families, riders, volunteers,
thank you for all good wishes for my travel to visit parents in Croatia. They worked well and I am back thankful for another chance to be with my mom and dad.
I am excited for our event this Saturday and looking forward to see most of you there smile emoticon
Update from the vet and our schedule - Good news first - EHV1 we registered in one of new mares was not horrible neurological form, but more common respiratory one. No one else in herd showed any symptoms. Our new mares are separated from the main herd, and whole farm is under quarantine until we get the green light from our Shannon the Vet smile emoticon
Bad news are that waiting it might affect our plans to start riding at the Park this coming Monday Dec/14th.
We still can and will gather starting this Monday, and do what we (volunteers and EAL students) can to get our horses ready for the Winter Class starting in a month.
Stay in touch with SPIRIT and hope to seeing you this Saturday at Kalypso's Tavern, Reston, at 5 PM
Be well!

R.I.P. dear #420

This mare did not make it longer than 12 hours. She came dehydrated, weak and probably having some kind of colic last evening.
Vet sad that it was probably too late even then for her.
We gave her comfort and piece to go over the rainbow surrounded by friendly touch and voice
Poor #920 spent her last night in warm stall, with lot of bedding, hay and water she was not able to take, any more.
Sometimes you can save horses from kill pen and give them years of good life, with care and love they deserve.
Sometime it is only 12 hours.
I do not regret.
Hope some of her fiends from kill pen will make it longer.
R.I.P. dear #420

Show tomorrow! Are you ready?

Hello everyone! With the show around the corner I have a couple more things to remind everyone of:
  • Spirit riders can come to the barn and practice for the show 5-7 Friday evening.
  • When you get to the show, please go to the show office in the indoor to check in and get your welcome packet.
  • It's going to be cold outside, so don't forget coats-- we don't mind at all if rider go into the ring with a jacket covering up your show shirt.
  • Spirit riders, we had to do some horse reassignments for people riding Buttercup. These riders have already been emailed, but please be aware that you might end up sharing a horse with more people than you originally thought. On that note, Huckleberry will be working a lot, so please try to warm up minimally on him and give him lots of breaks.
See how it looks like to grow with Spirit HERE

We just saved two mares from kill pen !

Saving their lives so they can heal and teach at SPIRIT Team

Not every horse can afford a retirement home at Middleburg smile emoticon and we are happy to know that our dear friend, Lucinda is going home to be a back yard and petting pony for her proud owner Caroline.
Thank you Caroline and Elgin family for gift of usage this beautiful mare. She has been loved by so many riders in therapy and learning program, she created so many smiles and special moments of joy and accomplishment in past years at SPIRIT.
She needs a quiet time and fresh air of the Plains and she is lucky to belong to Caroline and can come back to her family now.
